Mission Statement

The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Department is to provide a year-round leisure services program and functional, well-maintained facilities which serve the diverse needs of the community at large.

Parks and Recreation is so much more than playgrounds, fields and a Community Center. We introduce kids to youth sports in a fun, safe environment. We encourage seniors activities and build friendships. We help you achieve your fitness goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle. We provide well-maintained places to picnic and play. We provide family programs you will remember for a lifetime. So stop by often and try something new – there’s always something going on!

                Greg Karle, Recreation Director

The Recreation Director is the leader of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, responsible for planning and managing the department’s overall service delivery of sports, recreation and leisure programs, activities, and resources.

Recreation Director Greg Karle began his career with the Springdale Parks and Recreation Department in 1981 as an Assistant Recreation Director. Greg served as one of three Assistant Recreation Directors until 2003, when he was chosen to become the Recreation Director. Throughout his career in Springdale, Greg has witnessed tremendous growth in the City’s facilities as well as the programs offered to residents and businesses. The Community Center has experienced three major renovations/expansions evolving into a facility capable of meeting the recreational needs of all ages and interests. Programming and special event opportunities have expanded by nearly 50% with approximately eighty classes, special events, and activities offered in 2014.

Greg has professional affiliations with the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association and the National Recreation and Parks Association. He is also a member of the Springdale-Forest Park Lions Club and Springdale Offering Support (SOS) service organizations.

Greg earned an Associates of Applied Science in Business Administration from Northern Kentucky University and a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Cincinnati. Presently he is nearing completion of a Master of Education in Sport Administration from Xavier University.

Greg and his wife, Mary Lee, have four children: Jeremy, Luke, Andy, and Lauren. Greg can often be spotted in the Center’s Fitness Room working out during his lunch hour. In addition to his commitment to fitness, Greg enjoys cycling and boating.
