Learn to Swim the Springdale Parks and Recreation and Red Cross Way!
The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim classes provide instruction to help children ages 3 to 12 to develop their swimming and water safety skills.
Session 1:
Members: April 1 Non-Members: May 1 (Session 1 Only)
Session 2:
Members: June 30 Non-Members: July 3
● Participants may only enroll in one class at a time.
Pre-school (PS) Level 1
Students will learn beginning water skills, which they will progressively build on throughout the program. Some skills taught include: entering independently, blow bubbles, submerge mouth, nose and eyes, front and back glides, and back float.
Must be 3-6 years old by June 1 of current year 5:1 student/instructor ratio. Classes are 2 weeks in length. Monday-Friday for 30 minutes. Class times available are 10:30, 11:00 and 11:30 am. Members $30 – Non-Members $60
Pre-school (PS) Level 2
Students learn to float on their stomach and back semi-independently, open eyes underwater and are introduced to treading water. Laying the foundation for future strokes, students explore arm and leg actions on their stomach and back along with front and back glides.
Must be 4-6 years old by June 1 of current year. 5:1 student/instructor ratio. Classes are 2 weeks in length. Monday-Friday for 30 minutes. Class times available are 10:30, 11:00 and 11:30 am. Members $30 – Non-Members $60
Pre-school (PS) Level 3 (NEW)
Students are taught to coordinate arms and legs on their stomach and back, change directions while traveling on their front or back, continue working on treading water and floating on their backs. Students will be introduced to rotary breathing.
Must be 4-6 years old by June 1 of current year. 6:1 student/instructor ratio. Classes are 2 weeks in length. Monday-Friday for 30 minutes. Class times available are 10:30, 11:00 and 11:30 am. Members $30 – Non-Members $60
Learn to Swim (LTS) Level 2 (Formerly Beginner)
Must be at least 6 years old by June 1 of current year and passed Pre-School level 3 or 7 years old by June 1 of current year with no prerequisite. Ages 7-14 8:1 student/instructor ratio. Classes are 4 weeks in length, Monday-Friday for 30 minutes. Class times, depending on level, are available 10:00, 10:30, 11:00 or 11:30 am. Members $40 – Non – Members $70
Learn to Swim (LTS) Level 3 (Combination of Beginner and Intermediate)
Students will continue working on coordinating their arms and legs and treading, as well as learning scissor, breaststroke and dolphin kick. They will also learn how to swim elementary backstroke.
Must have passed Learn to Swim Level 2. Ages 7-14 8:1 student/instructor ratio. Classes are 4 weeks in length, Monday-Friday for 30 minutes. Class times, depending on level, are available 10:00, 10:30, 11:00 or 11:30 am. Members $40 – Non – Members $70
Learn to Swim (LTS) Level 4 (Formerly Intermediate)
Students are taught backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly, and sidestroke along with headfirst entries. Students will jump in to deep water, tread water, and swim underwater. Students will work on their endurance and swim further distances.
Must have passed Learn to Swim Level 3. Ages 7-14 8:1 student/instructor ratio. Classes are 4 weeks in length, Monday-Friday for 30 minutes. Class times, depending on level, are available 10:00, 10:30, 11:00 or 11:30 am. Members $40 – Non – Members $70
Learn to Swim (LTS) Level 5 (Formerly Advanced)
The objective of this level is to coordinate and refine all strokes: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly, and sidestroke. Students will continue to work on their endurance and diving. Front and back flip turns are also taught.
Must have passed Learn to Swim Level 4. Ages 7-14 8:1 student/instructor ratio. Classes are 4 weeks in length, Monday-Friday for 30 minutes. Class times, depending on level, are available 10:00, 10:30, 11:00 or 11:30 am. Members $40 – Non – Members $70
Learn to Swim (LTS) Level 6 (Formerly Advanced Plus)
This class will refine all strokes even further and builds endurance so students are able to swim greater distances with proficiency. Students will also be taught surface dives and different survival floats/positions.
Must have passed Learn to Swim Level 5. Ages 7-14 8:1 student/instructor ratio. Classes are 4 weeks in length, Monday-Friday for 30 minutes. Class times, depending on level, are available 10:00, 10:30, 11:00 or 11:30 am. Members $40 – Non – Members $70
Learning the Basics
Participants learn basic swimming strokes: front crawl and backstroke, as well as basic skills: front float, back float and front and back glides needed to stay safe in the water. Offered 6:30- 7:00 PM
Classes are Thursdays June 8- July 27 10:1 student/instructor ratio. Ages 15 and older Members $30 – Non Members $60
Improving Skills and Swimming Strokes
Participants will gain proficiency in basic aquatic skills and the six basic swimming strokes: front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke. Participants will also be taught how to tread water. Participants should have basic knowledge and skills of swimming. Offered 7:05-7:35 PM
